When it comes to broccoli, there are 2 categories that can be found: regular broccoli and baby broccoli. The term ‘baby’ refers to two different types of vegetable. Firstly, baby broccoli is identified as a variety of modified version. Secondly, it may also signify Broccolini, a fusion between regular broccoli and the Asian, leafy vegetable, ‘Gai Lan’. Thus, this vegetable and its various subtypes are enjoyed by the Australian citizens greatly.


As of the year ending in 2019:

  1. 69% of Australians purchased this vegetable during their shopping trip. This amounts to approximately 390 grams of broccoli per trip.
  2. 75,957 tonnes of this vegetable was produced during this year and the value amounts to $256 million. Out of this 5% was reserved for processing.
  3. The supply per capita was deciphered at 2.6 kg, based on the volume that was supplied.
  4. The wholesale amount of the fresh supply was calculated at $280 million.

Major Broccoli Growing Production Areas

This is a common vegetable that is produced in most Australian states. However, amongst all states, Victoria is a region where the majority of this vegetable is found. Moreover, in Queensland, the major growing areas are Lockyer Valley and Stanthorpe. In New South Wales, this vegetable is grown at Windsor and Forbes. Finally, Robinvale and Melbourne are the regions where broccoli is found in Australia.
