Dried Fruits Australia Announces Winners

Article by: Hari Yellina

With the national association presenting new prizes for its top farmers based on commercial considerations, dried grape growers will be clearing space on the mantelpiece. Dried Fruits Australia (DFA) is launching the 2022 DFA Top Crop Categories this season, which will recognise and reward enterprises who produce the greatest value crop per hectare, with separate awards for each main variety.

The variants are as follows:

  • Sunglo;
  • Sunmuscat;
  • Currants;
  • Selma Pete;
  • Sugra 39;
  • Sultanas;
  • Sunglo;

Final yields, grades, any deductions (as validated by paperwork obtained from a processor), and publicly available base-level pricing will be used to select the winners. The awards will be awarded at the Mildura Field Days, and the average yield per hectare of the winners will be made public. Each category winner will get a $100 Mildura City Heart gift voucher, while the overall winner will receive a $500 Mildura City Heart gift voucher. The awards will differ from the DFA’s annual Dried Fruit Quality Awards in that they will be based on commercial results. “An 11.6 tonnes per hectare five-crown dark entry with no deductions will score better than a 10 tonnes per hectare five-crown light entry in the Sunmuscat category,” according to a DFA release.

To register for the awards, e-mail: [email protected]. Entries close March 18, with final yields, grades and deductions to be provided by May 16.

Dried Fruits Australia

Dried fruit is widely used around the world and has a wide range of applications. Dried fruit can be used in baking, salads, raw and vegan cookery, and as a snack. Dried fruit is exactly what it says on the tin! It’s basically simply dehydrated fruit, thus it offers (nearly) all of the same health advantages as regular fruit. There are always debates about the health benefits of dried fruit, but it has been discovered that when it comes to your health, dried fruit should be viewed in context. Because dried fruit has a comparable composition to fresh fruit, any health discussion must take in mind that people’s tolerances for fructose are different! Fruit contains a lot of fructose, which is a type of sugar that should be consumed in moderation. Dried fruit, on the other hand, is incredibly healthy. It also contains a lot of fibre, which is necessary for controlling the body’s fructose metabolism. Overall, dried fruit is a delightful, healthful, and adaptable ingredient that should be consumed in moderation for all of its health advantages and delectable flavours.
