Some harvesting roles use piece rates (paid per bin, bucket or kilogram). Under the Horticulture Award, a piece rate must be set so that a competent worker working at the average productivity of a competent worker would earn at least 15% above the applicable hourly rate for their classification. There is also a daily minimum guarantee if piece-rate earnings fall short.
Piece-rate arrangements must be recorded in writing. Ask us for the written rate, the hourly comparison rate, and how the daily guarantee is calculated before you accept a piece-rate job.
